Ingredients
2 large onions, peeled
1/2 cup all-purpose flour, seasoned with salt and pepper
2 large eggs, beaten
1/4 cup buttermilk
1 cup breadcrumbs (plain or Italian seasoned)
Oil spray or olive oil (optional for extra crispiness)
1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
1 teaspoon paprika (optional)
Instructions
Preheat air fryer to 375°F (190°C)
Cut each onion into 8 petals, starting from the root
Separate the petals while keeping the root intact to form a flower shape
Set up three stations: flour, beaten egg mixture, and breadcrumbs
Dip each onion into flour, then egg mixture, then breadcrumbs to coat
Secure petals with a toothpick to hold the shape
Lightly spray or brush with oil for extra crispiness if desired
Place onions in air fryer basket in a single layer
Air fry for 18-20 minutes, flipping halfway
Remove toothpicks before serving
