Description
A lighter, guilt-free version of crispy onion rings made in an air fryer. Perfectly golden, crunchy on the outside, and tender inside, these rings are ideal for snacks, sides, or family gatherings.
Ingredients
2 medium onions, sliced into ½-inch thick rings
½ cup all-purpose flour
3 cups Panko breadcrumbs
1 large egg
1 cup buttermilk
1–2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon paprika (optional)
Instructions
1. Preheat air fryer to 375°F (190°C)
2. Season flour with salt, pepper, and paprika in a bowl
3. Whisk egg and buttermilk in a separate bowl
4. Dredge onion rings in flour mixture, shake off excess, then dip into egg mixture
5. Coate evenly by rolling in Panko breadcrumbs
6. Place rings in air fryer in a single layer (do not overcrowd)
7. Cook 10–12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crispy
8. Repeat in batches if needed
9. Serve immediately
Notes
For extra crispiness, toss breadcrumbs with 1 tbsp olive or avocado oil before coating. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 hours; re-crisp in air fryer at 325°F (160°C) for 2–3 minutes before serving.
